Zadovoljstvo nam je pozvati vas na 83. Fakultetski seminar 24. 2. 2026. u A0-1 u 12:00 na temu: Porous Organic Networks: From Design to Applications koji će održati dr. Sebastijan Kovačič s Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, University of Maribor.

Sažetak
Porous materials underpin many technologies that shape modern life, from gas separation to energy storage and environmental remediation. While inorganic frameworks such as zeolites and metal–organic frameworks have long dominated this field, purely organic porous networks are emerging as a versatile and tuneable alternative. Composed entirely of organic building blocks, these materials offer structural designability and lightweight composition, creating new opportunities for tailored functionality in catalysis, adsorption, and sustainable technologies. In this discussion, some de novo porous organic networks such as polyelectrolytes, π-conjugated or hybrid networks will be presented, and their use in some innovative applications, e.g. CO2 capture, soilless cultivation, or thermal insulation, to name a few. In addition, the results of using organic networks as photocatalysts for the degradation of low-molecular-weight plasticizers from microplastics present in the aquatic environment will also be discussed.

Kratki životopis
Dr Sebastijan Kovačič earned his PhD in 2011 from the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at the University of Maribor (FCCE UM). He subsequently completed two postdoctoral appointments: first at the Institute for Chemistry and Technology of Materials at Graz University of Technology, Austria, and then at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. In 2014, he joined the Slovenian National Institute of Chemistry as a research associate. He was promoted to Associate Professor at FCCE UM in 2023 and currently leads the Catalysis and Organic Synthesis research group. His interdisciplinary research covers the design and synthesis of functional molecules, macromolecules, and advanced porous materials, with a recent focus on conjugated organic networks.
