Adapting to Climate Change: China’s Integrated Coastal Management Strategies and Nature-Based Solutions for Beach Resource Protection
koji će održati dr. Shasha Liu s School of Hydraulic and Civil Engineering, Ludong University.
Sažetak
Beaches are a natural treasure that can generate huge economic benefits and welfare. In the Anthropocene, human activities have induced profound, or irreversible alterations to coastal system, with coastal erosion and inundation emerging as critical natural hazards threatening human life and property. Traditional adaptive measures commonly rely on singular Nature-based Solutions (NbS)—whether hard structures, soft engineering, or vegetation. However, instances of multiple NbS being employed together are seldom studied, particularly in morphologically complex coasts. China’s ecological restoration experience demonstrate that MSP policies and integrated development strategies effectively drive coastline protection. Case studies in China illustrate that hybrid NbS can recover and strengthen spatial ecological disaster mitigation system in complex and vulnerable coastal environments. Critical recommendations are proposed for successful long-term coastal restoration: sustained political commitment, enhanced public participation in local economic growth, and advancement of NbS technologies. Our research not only highlights China’s commitment to environment governance, but also provides valuable paradigms for coastal protection and climate change adaption in global coastal areas.
Kratki životopis
Dr. Liu obtained her PhD from Beijing Normal University in 2018, and conducted postdoctoral research at the Third Institute of Oceanography, Ministry of Natural Resources, China, in 2023. Currently, she is a full-time lecturer at Ludong University in Yantai, China. Her research addresses challenges in both natural and social aspects of coastal issues, including anthropogenic impacts on the coastal environment, climate change responses in coastal regions, sustainable coastal development, and legal improvements.
