The teaching specialisation in Split in intended for developing competences necessary for physics teachers. The programme is run by the Department of Physics in collaboration with other departments at the Faculty of Science in Split.
Students can enrol into the study programme after acquiring a bachelor’s degree in Physics or some other related study programme, subject to passing the required bridging courses. The duration of the study programme is 4 semesters (2 academic years). Passing all exams and defending the graduate thesis leads to 120 ECTS credits and a master’s degree in Physics with Teaching (mag. phys.).
Ongoing studies can take place in most postgraduate study programmes in physics, subject to passing the required bridging courses, for instance, in the scientific-orientated doctoral study programmes such as Biophysics at the Faculty of Science in Split, and in other related study programmes in Croatia, the European Union and the world.
The study programme supplements the foundational concepts of physics from the undergraduate study programme, especial those concepts used in school classes. Students learn to apply the fundamental experimental methods, analyse measured data as well as conduct and interpret demonstrative experiments. They acquire knowledge necessary in applying ICT technology in multimedia processes and presentations of teaching content. Elective courses offer students the ability to decide their desired specialisation.
The master’s degree in physics with teaching enables graduates to become physics teachers in primary and secondary schools, while the acquired competences give them the ability to perform complex tasks in the economic sector, public sector and state administration. These jobs require analysis, modelling and the solving of complex problems, systems and processes as well as complex statistical data analysis and application of information technology. The synergy of knowledge and skills in mathematics and physics gives them the ability to work in research laboratories at scientific and professional institutions and in various industries.
