Students, who have achieved in the undergraduate study programme the appropriate number of ECTS credits in the area of biology and chemistry, can enrol into the graduate study programme Biology and Chemistry, as a teaching specialisation. Upon completion of the study programme Biology and Chemistry, students are awarded the master’s degree in biology and chemistry with education. The graduate study programme supplements acquired professional biological and chemical knowledge at the undergraduate level, and leads to the adoption of the appropriate pedagogic, didactic, psychological and methodical competences essential for successful teaching all biology and chemistry programmes in primary and secondary school. Work undertaken by teachers and professors is a responsible and noble profession of immeasurable importance for the education and society as a whole. Over the course of four semesters of the graduate study programme, students acquire knowledge and skills, fully preparing them to work within teaching processes and transmitting their acquired knowledge. The diversity and high quality of competences, acquired in this graduate study programme, enable those holding a master’s degree in biology and chemistry with teaching and educated at the Faculty of Science in Split, to also gain employment in other jobs (at universities, institutes, laboratories and pharmaceutical companies), while enabling those excellent students to continue scientific and research work at an academic level as well as enrol into the postgraduate study programme Research in Education in Natural and Technical Sciences or in other postgraduate study programmes in the country and abroad.
After moving into new premises at the Three Faculties Building on the Split University Campus in 2016, the Faculty of Science became fully capable of meeting the demands of teaching and organising this kind of study programme in terms of space, scientific and teaching equipment.
